Biohacking or otherwise called DIY biology according to Merriam-Webster is the art and science of becoming superhuman, or in other terms, the art of changing the environment outside of you and inside of you so you have full control of your biology- to allow you to upgrade your body, mind, and your life.
Biohacking is a whole-body approach to health. Thanks to constant advances in our understanding of how the body works and how it is affected by its environment. A biohacker is somebody who uses science and technology to make his or her body function better and more efficiently. Biohacking aims to improve our overall well-being by optimizing nutrition, sleep, mind, heart, fitness, and any other lifestyle factors that influence our health.
Dave Asprey, a biohacker who created the supplement company Bulletproof, said that If we want better outputs — to have more energy and focus, to be free of disease, to have a better memory, to perform optimally in business and athletics, then we have to tweak the things we put into our body and mind to stack the deck in our favor.
Asprey is very game to experiment on his body: He has stem cells injected into his joints, takes dozens of supplements daily, bathes in infrared light, and much more. It’s all part of his quest to live until at least age 180.

Three most popular forms of Biohacking
- Nutrigenomics. focuses on how the food you eat interacts with your genes.
- DIY biology. is a type of biohacking spearheaded by people with education and experience in scientific fields.
- Grinder. is a biohacking subculture that sees every part of the human body as hackable.
Making lifestyle changes based on science is the beauty of biohacking. Rather than guessing how to achieve full-body wellness, you can implement changes based on your unique makeup. This helps you prioritize and focus on the aspects of your health that need the most attention. Not only will you feel your progress, but you are also able to measure your improvement.
9 Simple Biohacks you can try at home.
- Eating the right foods and reducing sugar intake. Lots of vegetables and grass-fed butter and protein will help improve your health and rid you of brain fog.
- Try an elimination diet. An elimination diet is exactly what it sounds like. With an elimination diet, you’ll get rid of something from your diet and then slowly re-introduce it to see how it affects your body. This is a popular option if you think you’re allergic to a food or are concerned that a food may be causing inflammation, such as dairy, red meat, or processed sugar.
- Try intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is a type of dieting method that involves only eating between certain times, then fasting for an extended period until the next designated time to eat.
- Drink caffeine. Caffeine is well-known as a productivity booster. Start with an 8-ounce serving of black coffee, green tea, or caffeinated foods like dark chocolate.
- Make Vitamins a part of your daily routine. Vitamins can improve your mental clarity and give you a boost of energy to last the entire day.
- Tracking your sleep. Analyzing how well you’re sleeping will help you improve your sleep patterns and energize your mind and body. It’s called Sleep Biohack.
- Be grateful. Increasing the amount of gratitude in your life can literally rewire your brain and make you more positive. Start a gratitude journal to make yourself start listing things you’re grateful for each day.
- Get some blue light for a mood boost. Blue light from the sun can help you boost your mood or enhance your cognitive performance. Get a few extra hours of direct/indirect sunlight each day- go spend time outdoors or better spend time in nature and see if you notice any changes. Remember to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher this can protect your skin from sun damage.
- Make Fitness/Exercise a habit. Exercise is one of the most important relationships that affect someone’s overall health. By committing to exercising at least six days per week our bodies will begin to improve how they utilize fuel for energy. This results in better workouts, reduced heart disease, and overall better health.
Biohacking does have some merits. Some forms are easy to do at home and easy to reverse if something goes wrong. But in general, be careful. Experimenting with yourself without taking all the proper precautions can lead to unexpected side effects.
Don’t forget to start small, everything in moderation. When you start something new, keep a journal of how it makes you feel in the minutes, hours, or days afterward: Do you feel more focused? More energized? More anxious? Try tweaking until you know what works best for your goal.
Rule of thumb: Too much of anything is bad
Talk to your doctor or nutritionist before making any significant changes to your diet. And make sure to do your own research before putting any foreign substance into your body.

Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for your comment. With regards to the elimination diet, you can start small. I’m in a quest to eat healthily so, I’m slowly limiting my unhealthy food choices and replacing them with foods that I don’t necessarily fancy but are beneficial for my health.
