How to win the war against your mind: Thoughts create your reality

disclosure

Your thoughts affect your feelings, your feelings control your words and actions, your actions create your destiny. The question is, are you in control of your thoughts? Are your thoughts accurate or presumptuous? Are they positive or negative?

Thoughts trigger emotions

Emotions are reactions to the thoughts you give attention to. Our thoughts have incredible power to shape our lives and the lives of others. Our thoughts and interpretations of circumstances directly influence beliefs, and ultimately, our actions.

Self-limiting thoughts and beliefs hold us back from going after our goals. Our mind runs automatic thought processes that are filled with the same repetitive ideas and deeply embedded beliefs that we may not even be aware of. Nevertheless, these limiting thoughts and beliefs, make us adopt those narratives in our minds and convince ourselves of things that aren’t always true. We begin to set limitations on the things we can achieve.

In Search of the solution

For you to change your life, you must learn to control your thoughts first. Remember that thoughts can trigger emotions in this case you must think with coherent intention.

Your Thoughts Can Actually Change Reality

This means you must…

  • Be Grateful
  • Think positively
  • Always look for the good in the bad
  • Shut down any negative thought as they may lead to more crazy ideas
  • Don’t make problems bigger than they are, think logically
  • Avoid spending major time on minor things
  • Be mindful of where you place your energy
  • Surround yourself with positive, supportive people/mentors
  • Create an environment congruent to your goals
  • Exercise to reduce stress

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve – Napoleon Hill

The mind is the master builder, It has the power to heal or destroy our body, create wealth or perpetuate poverty. Our mind and our thoughts create our reality. It is famously known that Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can or can’t, you’re are right.”

The problem is the mind cannot distinguish between a real or something you simply think about.

Gandhi put it this way, “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, and your values become your destiny.”

We cannot see or touch a thought, they are very real things. They are stored in our subconscious mind as something similar to a software program in our computer. It doesn’t matter if the thought is good or not good, neither the computer nor your mind can distinguish between a real or imagined event or thought. Both are computers, it believes what it processes. Thus, if it is stored in the program, it can become a reality.

Be Conscious and Guard Yourself from outside Influences

You have to consider the influences around you. According to Jim Rohn author of 7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness  “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Take a moment to reflect on the following: Who are the people you spend the most time with? Do they elevate you or bring you down? Are they proactive go-getters exhibiting qualities that you admire or people who just sit and criticize? Do they motivate or drain you?

The awesome thing about being around positive-minded individuals, who have a habit of chasing their dreams and believe in taking responsibility for their lives, is that you’ll be inclined to grow in a positive direction as well.

They will have an impact on your thinking and consequently your behavior. They will support you and move you towards inspired action.

Mindset is the Key

Mindsets are not just important for learning new skills. They can affect the way that we think about everything.

There are two ways to view intelligence or ability: Fixed or Growth Mindset

  • Fixed mindset– The Ability is fixed or ingrained, in other words, we are born with a certain level of ability and we cannot change that.
  • Growth Mindset-The belief that we can develop our ability through hard work and effort.

These two different beliefs lead to different behaviour, and also to different results.

Having a growth mindset (the belief that you are in control of your own ability, and can learn and improve) is the key to success.

For example, a growth mindset can help you recover from illness because you believe that you can do something about the illness. They can help you achieve in sports because you believe you can do what needs to be done to achieve the maximum output.

Belief is born out of the way we think

Cultivating a growth mindset could be the single most important thing you ever do to help you achieve success.

Remember the story of the Tortoise and the Hare?

The hare was so certain that he would win that he sat down and went to sleep during the race.

The tortoise just kept going forward, always thinking that he had a chance of winning. When the hare woke up, he started running as fast as he could, but he was just too late: the tortoise had won.

The hare had a fixed mindset. He believed that his innate ability would always mean that he would win whatever he did.

The tortoise had a growth mindset. He believed that he needed to work hard and keep going if he was to win.

Some Popular Practices to consider:

If you believe in the Laws of the Universe: Such as the very obvious Law of Gravity, you might want to consider the other laws governing our being. Two popular Immutable Laws of Nature practiced today include:

  • The Law of Attraction (like attracts like) meaning Positive thoughts attract positive results and the same goes for Negative thoughts attract negative results.
  • The Law of Intention (Where attention goes, energy flows). Whatever you put your attention on will grow stronger in your life. Whatever you take your attention away from will grow weaker.

Come to think of it, these two laws are governed to the way we think.

So how do you turn this master builder into a powerful allay?

If you want to live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life, you have to understand the power of your thoughts, beliefs, and how the subconscious mind works, then make it work for you.
